Justin Erickson Olympia WA Boat Accident: A devastating boating accident near Boston Harbor Marina in Olympia, Washington, has left 21-year-old Jack Edwards seriously injured and facing a long and difficult recovery. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has drawn widespread attention as details continue to emerge about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to information shared by Jack’s mother, Jessica Edwards, he had been out on a small 10-foot fishing boat with friends when a much larger 30-foot speedboat collided with them at an estimated speed of 35 to 40 miles per hour. The force of the impact ejected Jack from the vessel, and he was subsequently run over by the speeding boat in a terrifying sequence of events.
Despite the severity of the accident, Jack survived. His mother described the outcome as nothing short of miraculous, noting that a slightly different angle of impact could have resulted in far more tragic consequences. Although he is not a strong swimmer, Jack managed to stay afloat in the water until another boater arrived to help rescue him.
Jack was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries. These include a punctured lung and multiple open fractures affecting his scapula and elbow. He is expected to undergo several surgeries, followed by months of intensive recovery and rehabilitation.
In response to mounting medical expenses and the uncertainty of his recovery, Jack’s family has launched an online fundraiser to help cover costs. They noted that he will be unable to return to work for the foreseeable future, adding financial strain to an already challenging situation.
Authorities have identified the operator of the speedboat as Justin James Erickson, 51, who initially did not stop after the collision, reportedly believing he had struck a log. He later returned to the scene. Following an investigation, Erickson was arrested on suspicion of watercraft assault and booked into Thurston County Jail before being released under conditions, including a ban on operating marine vessels.
The Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case, with a decision on formal charges expected soon. Meanwhile, the community continues to rally around Jack Edwards as he begins his road to recovery.
